Mustang

Often called "The Symbol of the American West," modern Mustangs are descended from horses that were brought to the New World by European settlers, and either escaped captivity or were abandoned by their owners. Today, there are nearly 41,000 Mustangs living on public lands. These animals are under the control of the Bureau of Land Management, and many are available for adoption each year.
