Morgan
The Morgan breed was founded by a single stallion, the bay horse "Figure," who was owned by a teacher named Justin Morgan. Morgan acquired Figure in 1789, and the horse soon gained notoriety for his ability to out-walk, out-run, and out-pull every other horse in the New England area. Figure's stud services became highly sought after, and he was famous for his ability to pass his best qualities on to his offspring and to subsequent generations. After his owner's death, Figure became known as "The Justin Morgan horse," and the name "Morgan" was eventually given to the breed of sturdy, graceful horses that are descended from him.
